Research introduction

  • Standing on basic genomic information, we conduct plant researches from basic to applied points of view. As for basic researches, we are studying molecular mechanisms of photoperiodic induction of flowering and regulation of flower opening, using Japanese morning glory (Ipomoea nil), an obligate short-day plant. As for applied researches on genetically modified and edited plants, we are improving color and other traits of ornamental flowers. We are also studying production of edible vaccines and pharmaceutical proteins in collaboration with medical collaborators.
